How did you enjoy your endive last week? I found myself leaning into the Spring Clean shopping list more and more, even implementing one of my favorite breakfasts again (I’ll be sharing that recipe below, so keep reading!).
While you are reading this morning, I am heading down to Rutland, VT for the Vermont Pregnancy and Baby Expo (https://vtnaturallyyouchildbirth.com/expo/) . If you are in the area, please stop by and say hi!
Were you able to get out and enjoy any of the weather this week? I’ll be honest: I found it a challenge. While last Saturday was perfectly wonderful, the rest of the week was cold, rainy, and windy—all around less fun than I was hoping for.
I managed to spend 5 intentional minutes outside each day, but it took creativity. When I took out the compost, I didn’t come directly back inside; I walked around the house twice first. When I checked the mail, I walked a few minutes up the road and back before heading in.
My goal was achievable, and that made all the difference. This week, I’m aiming for 10 minutes a day, and I’m perfectly okay with two sets of 5 minutes if that’s what the day allows.
I want to focus this week on movement. Whether you are pregnant, postpartum, or an experienced mom, moving intentionally can sometimes feel like a chore.
I remember learning about a mother who turned her entire day into a workout. When she did laundry, she exaggerated every bend and stretch. When she picked up clutter, she incorporated squats. Even picking up her baby became a resistance exercise through intention and control.
One day, my sons were working out with weights. One was frustrated because he only had the 5lb set—he wanted more weight to get stronger faster. I showed him that light weights (or no weights at all) can be more effective than heavy ones if you isolate the muscles and slow the motion down considerably.
In the wisdom of TCM (https://centerforacupuncturenh.com/) and Ayurveda (https://mjhayurveda.com/what-is-ayurveda) , Spring is the season of the Liver. It is a time when the internal sap of our bodies begins to rise and seek movement. To help that Liver Qi flow, we don’t need a heavy gym session; we need gentle, intentional activation.
** Liver Twist
————————————————————
This simple 5-minute routine helps bring your Wood element into balance by stretching the Liver meridian. You’ll feel this along the inside of your legs, and the rotational movement helps activate energy at the organ level.
** How to do it:
————————————————————
* Initial Position: Stand with your feet in a wide straddle (slightly more than twice your shoulder width). Turn your toes slightly outward.
* Move: As you exhale, bend your left leg and move your upper body to the left. This stretches your right leg into a deep straddle.
* Twist: Extend your right arm to the right side while your left hand moves behind your back. Both palms should face upward.
* Reset: Inhale as you return to the center, then repeat on the other side.
Note: If you can’t go deep with your pelvis, don’t worry! You will still feel the stretch even in a shallow position. Over time, your mobility will increase naturally.
** Overnight Oats My Way
————————————————————
This is my go-to for a spring breakfast that feels both nourishing and easy.
* Base: 3/4 cup muesli (OR 1/2 cup rolled oats + 1 tbsp dried fruit + 1 tbsp chopped nuts or seeds).
* Preparation: Soak the base in 1/2 to 3/4 cup yogurt or kefir overnight in the fridge.
* Fun Twist: In the morning, add a pinch of cinnamon and a drizzle of honey to taste. You can eat it cold just like that, and it is delicious!
** I need your feedback please
————————————————————
I have been hard at work behind the scenes, and I am so excited to announce that the Two Hearts Healing website has been transformed! There are now two “front doors” to the practice, and I would love your honest feedback on them:
For Moms: www.twoheartshealing.info is targeted specifically for you. From a pregnant or new mom perspective, how do you feel when you land on this page? Do you feel comfortable and guided? Is it clear what to do next?
For Providers: www.birth-trauma.info is a dedicated starting point for health care professionals to use for referrals. From a care provider perspective, does this feel like an easy, confident place to send your clients?
Both pages contain the same vital information but are tailored to different starting points. If you have a moment to click around, please let me know if the navigation feels intuitive or if there are spots where you feel lost!
