About 20 years ago, I was “mothering mechanically.” My own upbringing had been a landscape of rigid control and suppressed emotion; I had learned early on that the only “safe” feelings were those that looked like peaceful happiness. Anything else was a liability.
In my mid 20’s, I had found a good man who loved me, yet pregnancy triggered deep-seated fear and trauma. Then, tragedy struck. In May 2004, my husband, Scott, was killed in an airplane accident. I was left with two children under three, a shattered world, and a heart that had retreated behind high, thick walls just to survive.
Years later, after remarriage and two more children, I noticed my attitudes shifting, but the walls were still there. When I became pregnant with my fifth baby, I felt consumed by anger. I thought I was done; I didn’t want more children. In the midst of a literal temper tantrum in my bedroom, a clear message pierced through: “So, this is how you act when you are given a blessing?” I stopped in my tracks. I realized then the treasure I carried in my womb—but I also realized I needed help to truly feel that treasure. During that pregnancy, I discovered Dr. Bradley Nelson (https://discoverhealing.com/ref/heatherlefoll/) and his work with the Emotion Code. As I worked through my own Heart Wall, I began the beautiful, fierce transition into the protecting love of a Mother Heart.
** What’s in a name?
————————————————————
Many of you may not know that my original practice was called Mother’s Heart. It was a tribute to a talk by Julie B. Beck (https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/general-conference/2004/04/a-mother-heart?lang=eng) that spoke of a nurturing force capable of changing history. I wanted that heart so desperately, but I couldn’t feel it through the layers of trauma.
As I did my own deep work—releasing the trapped emotions of my childhood and the grief of Scott’s death—my mission expanded. I realized that healing isn’t a solitary act. It happens in the sacred space between—between mother and child, practitioner and client, or even you and your own soul. Two Hearts Healing was born from the belief that when one heart opens, it gives the other permission to do the same.
Breaking the Cycle
————————————————————
A “Heart Wall” is almost always built out of a necessity for survival. For me, it was constructed to protect a 16-year-old girl escaping abuse. But as an adult, that same wall became a barrier that kept me from the very love I dreamed of giving my children.
Releasing these trapped emotions doesn’t just change your mood; it changes your legacy. By clearing my Heart Wall during my pregnancy, I changed the energetic environment for the baby I was carrying, and for all of my children. When we heal ourselves, we stop the cycle of “mechanical living” for the generations that follow.
Breaking the cycle of the past is the greatest gift we can give to our future. It turns the “mucky” emotions we’ve been hiding from into the very ground where our new life grows. Cindy’s journey perfectly captures that miraculous moment when the glass finally clears, and you realize you aren’t “defective”—you are simply ready to be whole:
“Thank you Heather! This has helped me immensely. In therapy I’m not as defensive and I am more open to other possibilities through my emotional responses. There is more harmony as I trudge through the mucky emotions that have been ruling my life. I also do not think I’m as defective as I once thought – I’m kind of crazy but there is a reason and it’s not all bad. I’ve learned that I serve a purpose in this family even if everyone thinks I over react. I think I can be more constructive now with my emotions verses being destructive to myself or anyone else. Lastly and most importantly I feel like myself again! I haven’t felt this real in 23 years!! I’m a complete mess but I can feel it, process it and move it out. I have been stuck in the mud for what seems like an eternity. It’s a miracle to me. So I’m so grateful for all you have done. You are an absolutely gifted healer that helped me with the breakthrough I desperately needed.”

** A Sneak Peak into Next Week
————————————————————
Next week, we lean into the tender energy of February—a month often associated with “The Quickening,” that sacred time when life begins to stir quietly beneath the frozen surface. As we approach Valentine’s Day, we’ll move beyond the store-bought cards to explore the history of this day and how it serves as a mirror for our most vital connections. We’ll discuss how a Heart Wall can act as an invisible barrier in our most sacred relationships, even affecting the profound bond between a mother and her child in the womb.
