Fifteen years ago, I found myself in a winter that felt never-ending. I was pregnant with my first baby and suffering from Hyperemesis Gravidarum (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK532917/) . It was January, the house was sealed tight against the cold, and I was living in a shared space where housekeeping wasn’t a priority.
The refrigerator was a minefield of odors. The sofa, the bathroom, even the breath of the people around me—everything felt like an assault on my senses. There was no “safe” smell.
With the tiny bit of energy I had, I would pull on my coat and stagger outside to the woods behind the house. I would find an evergreen tree, crush the needles between my fingers, and inhale. That sharp, clean scent was the only thing that offered a moment of reprieve from the crushing nausea.
** Morning Sickness & The Body Code
Back then, I thought I was simply “unlucky” or that my body was failing me. Today, through my work with the Body Code (https://discoverhealing.com/ref/heatherlefoll/) , I see it differently. While morning sickness is often dismissed as “just hormones,” the Body Code allows us to dig deeper into why the body is reacting so violently to those hormonal shifts.
When I look back at my own experience with Hyperemesis, I now understand that my body was riddled with prenatal disconnections and emotional trauma. The Body Code looks for specific imbalances that contribute to pregnancy distress:
* Prenatal Disconnections: This occurs when the energetic connection between the mother and the developing baby is misaligned or broken. * Organ Disconnections: Often, the communication between the brain and the digestive system (specifically the stomach and liver) becomes “short-circuited” by the stress of pregnancy.
* Trapped Emotions: We can carry “Inherited Emotions” or “Shared Emotions” with the baby. If the mother is feeling overwhelmed or fearful about the future, the body often processes that energy through the solar plexus—the seat of digestion.
* Toxins & Pathogens: Sometimes the body is struggling to detoxify the extra hormones, and a Body Code session can identify if a specific organ needs energetic support to clear that “sludge.”
By identifying and releasing these energetic blocks, we move the body from a state of “rejection” (nausea) back into a state of “harmony” (nurturing).
** How do I bond with my baby when I feel so sick?

It is incredibly difficult to feel “maternal” when you are hovering over a sink or confined to a dark room. When your physical body is in distress, your survival instinct kicks in, which can make you feel disconnected from the life growing inside you.
The secret is to stop trying to bond through the physical stomach and start bonding through the energetic heart-space.
** Try a 5 Minute “Heart to Womb” Connection

Try this ritual to shift your focus from the physical stomach to the energetic heart.
1. Find Your Center: Sit or lie down in a position that minimizes your nausea. Place one hand on your heart and the other on your lower abdomen.
2. The Golden Thread: Close your eyes. Visualize a soft, golden thread of light connecting your heart directly to your baby.
3. Bypass the Discomfort: Imagine your breath moving in and out through your heart, completely bypassing your stomach. You are breathing with your baby, not through your sickness.
4. The Heartbeat Pulse: Feel your own heartbeat. Imagine it sending a rhythmic wave of calm down that golden thread. Silently say to your baby: “I am here, and you are loved. We are doing this together.”
5. Release: Spend two more minutes simply resting in that heart-space.
** Create an Indoor Forest: Reclaiming Your Air

When it’s too cold to open the house, but the indoor smells are closing in on you, you can recreate that “crushed needle” relief I found in the woods.
